Case study · Render Cleaning

Red algae lifted from a family home.

Over time, airborne spores and constant damp weather had allowed aggressive red algae to take root across the front render of this modern detached home. Heavy vertical streaking ran down the main elevation from beneath the eaves and window sills, severely discolouring the crisp walls and making a relatively new property look decades older than it actually was.

The challenge

What we found.

The front elevation had heavy red and dark streaking running from beneath the gable, concentrated where rainwater runs down the wall. High pressure risked damaging the textured render finish.

Our approach

The result

A fresh finish.

The render returned to a clean, even cream finish without disturbing the texture — the house looks as it did when it was built.

“It looks like a brand new house again. The neighbours have already asked for the number.”

Customer, Leyland

The solution

How we restored it.

Rather than using aggressive high pressure that could tear or strip the textured render finish, we applied a specialized low-pressure soft-wash biocide solution specifically formulated for delicate exterior walls. The solution was left to dwell, actively breaking down the stubborn red and black algae at a cellular level before being gently rinsed away with low-pressure water. This safely erased all vertical streaking and restored the wall’s clean, uniform appearance without causing any surface abrasion.

Conducted a surface check to identify the organic growth type and confirm the render system's tolerance.
Masked and protected surrounding glass, timber doors, and nearby garden planting before chemical application.
Applied a tailored biocide soft-wash treatment, allowing precise dwell time to neutralize deep-set spores.
Rinsed the elevation gently with pure water, leaving a spotless finish and an active layer of protection against regrowth.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing service superb value. And Tom was very tidy and respectful of the grounds, he even moved all the pots and place them back exactly in place. Even made an extra special effort to not damage the grass which was very much appreciated. Thanks Tom a superb job and what a transformation! Would highly recommend! Took him a solid 5 and half hours in strong winds tbf. It looks mega. He even sent me a video of the work which, being as OCD as I am, just can’t stop watching! 🙋🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤣 Thanks Tom and Garry for a brilliant service

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a great experience with this company in September 2026. Communication was easy and prompt, and the team arrived on the agreed date. They did an excellent job cleaning the roof, gutters and surrounding areas—the roof looks almost new!
Although the work took longer than expected, they returned to apply the roof protection and made sure everything was left spotless. The bill matched the quoted price, too. We couldn’t recommend them more highly!

The team came out on Saturday, and I have to say the results speak for themselves — the quality of the work genuinely proves how professional and skilled they are.

Tom attended and was extremely polite, friendly, and professional throughout. He took great care with the job, and the standard of the finish was excellent. The difference after the clean was amazing and clearly showed the effort and attention to detail that went into the work.

The service was reliable, on time, and carried out to a very high standard. I would highly recommend Lancashire Exterior Cleaning Specialists to anyone looking for a professional and trustworthy company. I would happily give more than 5 stars if I could!.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had Tom out to clean my house, conservatory and garage roof, along with all facias and guttering. Could not fault Tom or his service, would definitely recommend these guys to anyone. I’ve had several people out over the years and they topped them all, everything looks brand new again. Would also like to add I have solar panels and no damage was caused, they took great care. Well worth the price!
